How to prevent or eliminate bad breath?
Our focus on dental health is a key factor in combating bad breath. A simple alteration in your lifestyle or daily habits can completely eliminate bad odors from your mouth and protect you from the development of gum disease, as well as keep your teeth and oral cavity in good health.
There are three very common cases where we can avoid bad smell.
- Smoke: More and more people are smoking without being aware of the risks it poses to their health. We will never judge you, but we will offer you clear and precise information on how smoking in particular can damage your gums and mouth and cause bad breath.
- Food: Garlic, shellfish, and even alcohol can certainly catch your breath. Fortunately, there are ways to minimize this problem while still allowing you to enjoy yourself and have a good time. Using mouthwash throughout the day or after a given meal and chewing sugarless gum go a long way to reducing certain food odors. The reason why garlic and onion (among others) cause an unpleasant odor is due to the process of certain bacteria that spoil food. Unfortunately, the result is smelly byproducts, so again, mouthwash and chewing gum are certainly your friends here.
- poor dental hygiene: Poor oral hygiene causes the accumulation of food debris and bacteria in teeth and gums. This can cause, in addition to halitosis, gum disease, cavities and tartar on the teeth. Odor-causing bacteria are also stored on the surface of the tongue. For this reason, it is important to maintain complete oral hygiene on a daily basis.
If after these three ways to end bad breath have not worked for you and you are worried or embarrassed by bad breath, do not hesitate to express it in our office as it may be an indication of a future problem.
